Tinea versicolor: Nutrition and clothing have a limited effect on tinea versicolor (tv). True, if one wears heavy clothing and gets hot and sweats underneath, tv is more likely to overgrow. Tv flares when it is hot and humid outside or when one travels to hot humid areas. Regular intermittent treatments with antifungal medications tend to keep tv under good control.

Tinea Versicolor: Since the organism that causes tinea versicolor is a normal inhabitant of the skin and the disease does not affect the patient's general health, there is no widely accepted approach to prevention. Clothing and diet have nothing to do with the development of tinea versicolor. There seems to be a genetic predisposition to develop tinea versicolor, the nature of which is poorly understood.
