I just took a pregnancy test and there was a bold line and then a fainted line next to it. if i were pregnant wouldn't both lines be bold?

Not always: A positive pregnancy test has a positive "control" line that should be obviously positive, and a positive "test" line than can be faint early in a pregnancy (because there is not that much bHCG in the urine early in pregnancy). If one gets a faint "test" line, just do a second test 7 days later.
