Various causes: This is a common question that really does not have a very specific answer without an exam. Bumps come in many forms, many are benign, & a few are concerning for possible malignancy. It benefits you greatly to have it checked out so that you don't just "wonder" what it is. More importantly, if it is unusual, then treatment can be instituted.
