Irregular periods: Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is a very effective form of birth control. It causes the periods to be irregular for most women. In the first 3 months some women will get a long period or many days of spotting. Over time the periods tend to get less frequent and lighter.

Unpredictable : The shot has a mind if its own. Most people have irregular menses for several months before having no period at all for some.
