Is being bi polar something you're born with?

Dr. Dia Arpon answered

Possibly: It has a strong genetic component that can run in families. Some studies show a higher rate of mood disorders in family members of schizophrenics. However several factors like environment, trauma, nutrition can effect whether the gene is expressed or not. It is not a 100 % likelihood that your kid would get it if you have it. It is a chronic disease but with treatment you can live a good life.
