Functional cyst: It is actually normal for your ovaries to create cysts. In fact, this is how your ovaries support and release an egg every single month. For some reason however, a hormonal imbalance may be causing your cysts to stay for longer than expected and grow to sizes where they cause pain. The cyst you have now will go away, but you can prevent this by being on hormonal birth control in the future.
