Not that likely: I think you are putting too much faith in MRI scans while they are certainly helpful in many cases there are certainly things that are not seen at all well with mri.

Very sensitive : Mri is very sensitive and will pick up almost all tumors or cancer. Other infections may be more subtle and may not be seen on mri. Evaluation of the CSF via LP is probably the best to evaluate those infections.
