Back safety: Depends on how the weight is carried. If carried in a backpack and using both straps to distribute the weight, then carrying for the 30 minutes shouldn't be a problem. However, if you experience pain, you should lessen the weight by using an additional bag.

Carrying heavy objec: What is heavy to you may not be heavy to another person, weight lifting is a process of training your muscles also, if the book bag bothers in anyway it might be too heavy for you, either you can train your body to be fit or avoid carrying find another way to carry them. If you keep hurting yourself you may end up with muscular stain and pain.
