Recommend Ibuprofen: For muscle stains, recommend an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen (Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve). Narcotics, like Vicodin, are only pain relievers and do nothing for inflammation brought on by a strain. Vicodin also has other undesirable side effects like constipation, drowsiness, and is not advised for a muscle strain.
