A matter of Degree.: Simply stated, a pulled muscle is actually a torn muscle, but at a microscopic level. Compare that to a torn muscle, which will involve swelling, bruising and a high degree of pain, as opposed to a pulled muscle. Torn muscles may also show varying degrees of an actual deformity of the muscle mass itself as well as restricted muscle range.
