Indirectly, it may..: ..be a side effect of the prolonged use of an antibiotic. Antibiotics can kill off the healthy bacteria that protect us from unhealthy organisms. Regardless of its cause, a doctor should take a look at this and treat it accordingly. Best wishes. Dr. Anne
