No worries: This can be present in infants up to 5 months of age. Make sure to check with your pediatrician that all his milestones and other reflexes are normal.

Normal: I see it strong up to 3 months awake and 4 months asleep. It begins to fade as babies nervous system begins to mature. The kids are often a bit unhappy when these involuntary movements happen, but they are normal.

When is it ok to give my baby juice?

Dr. Marcus Degraw
Pediatrics 22 years experience
Six months: Six months is when juice and water are generally started for infants. However, juice (which is mostly sugar and water) is not a necessary part of infant nutrition and most pediatricians (and dentists) would be quite fine with never giving it to infants.
A member asked:

Why does my baby cry with the babysitter?

Dr. Adam Naddelman
Pediatrics 24 years experience
Separation anxiety: It is very common for babies to cry when they are with a person who is a stranger, or when they are separated from their parents. In this case, both things are happening at the same time: you are separating from your baby and putting her in the arms of someone she doesn't know as well. Over time, most babies will out grow this and will be more comfortable around people less familiar to them.
A member asked:

Can the flu shot give my baby the flu?

Dr. Michael Pappas
Pediatrics 23 years experience
No: The flu shot is dead. It cannot give your baby the flu. While as in any vaccinations, there are some minor side effects, e.g. Fever, the benefit of the shot far outweighs contracting the flu itself from an infected person. If your little one is over 6 months, then he/she should get it.

What are some healthy ways to get a crying baby to stop crying?

List of fixes: It helps if mom/dad make a list of what things they can do something about, for those times they are tired & can't think clearly. Offer feed if not fed within last 2hr. Warm if cold. Cool off if warm. Change if dirty. Console if in need of nurturing. A warm bath can relax them. If nothing works & baby is otherwise well, put on the headphones & let the kid figure it out.

I saw something on tv about autism now being able to be detected in a baby so is this true?

Concern not confirm: The american academy of pediatrics has developed testing to screen children within the first two years of life at risk for autism spectrum disorder. Questionnaire forms are used as well as performance tests. Concern may indicate referral for behavior therapy. It may take a few years before definite diagnosis is possible.
