A member asked:

I got scratched pretty good by my kitten last night and friday (not malicious, but one scratch went over another). i've been taking good care of them (antiseptic, topical, washing, gauze, etc.). still stings under water. is that normal?

Yes: Kittens have pretty sharp claws and it takes a few days for the top layer of your skin to heal. Keep a little vaseline on them to prevent the edges of the skin from drying out. Most wounds heal in 5-7 days. If over the next few weeks you get fever, body aches, join pains or lymph nodes along your elbow/armpit be sure to remember to tell your MD you had a kitten scratch recently.

YES: YES IT IS SO FAR NORMAL. YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB TAKING CARE OF YOUR WOUND. WATCH FOR SIGNS OF INFECTION LIKE REDNESS, AND INCREASED PAIN,OR A LYMPH NODES UNDER THE ARM.
