A member asked:

I'm 19 years old, why would i have a hyperplastic noncancerous polyp that is half an inch and was causing tons of blood?

Dumb luck: Sometimes these run in families. Ask whether you have the option of having the polyp's genetics / your genetic risk checked.

Hyperplastic polyp: There is some evidence that these benign polyps can progress to more serious serrated polyps. Repeat screening is indicated. As to the cause, it may be an isolated occurrence, or you may have a hereditary predisposition for polyp formation. Best to follow up with repeat screenings as advised.
