I have a softish lump on my left shin that is tender when palpated. it is about the size of a quarter and the skin is slightly lighter colored there.

Lump on shin: there are not many muscles that are found over the shin. Usually just the tibial crest or shin bone. Lumps that are painful are a concern unless there is some form of trauma. Go see your pcp or podiatrist or orthopedic dr for a check
