What is "silent hypoglycemia"?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

No such thing: Hypoglycemia - nervousness, sweating, hunger, anxiety, blurred vision, fatigue, fast heart rate, etc. -- however unless you have diabetes and are on Insulin or other medication, have renal or liver disease, cancer or prior stomach surgery -- then true hypoglycemia never occurs in human beings. If it a very frequently and incorrectly made diagnosis. Not silent, not real.

Silent Hypoglycemia: Hypoglycemia unawareness refers to the loss of early autonomic warning symptoms when a low glucose level occurs. This loss can predispose the patient to the development of severe neuroglycopenia (confusion/unconsciousness).
