Hydration and fiber: Constipation can frequently be relieved with increased dietary fiber and drinking plenty of water. One of the colon's primary jobs is to reabsorb water from the stool before it is excreted. If you are not drinking enough water the stool can become dry and hard, leading to constipation. Fruits and vegetables are a good source of dietary fiber.

Start with basics:: drink at least 8 large glasses of water a day, eat raw vegetable and fruit every day, take probiotics or eat yogurt or kefir every day, eat high fiber grains like whole wheat, flax meal, wheat germ, etc and take a fiber supplement nightly, add a magnesium supplement 300-400mg daily, and cut back on cheese and processed foods. If still problems, try docusate stool softener, then see your doc!
