In pathology, the use of the word tongues to describe a lesion such as barrett esophagus is unclear to me. what do they mean by tongues?

Barrett's esophagus.: Barrett's esophagus is usually found in the very end of the esophagus. When Barrett's esophagus it extends higher up in the esophagus, it is often referred to as a tongue of Barrett's. If you Google photographs of Barrett's esophagus, you will be able to see why these are called tongues. Stick with your reflux medicines and be sure to keep close tabs on your Barrett's over the years. Good luck.
