Under what circumstances would a baby be delivered by forceps instead of doc's hands? it seems like hands would be less traumatic on baby and mama.

If baby is STUCK: Forceps are definitely not as gentle and are only used in the rare event that your baby gets stuck pretty low in the birth canal and a c-section cannot be done. Most docs who deliver avoid foceps unless there is no choice.
