Time: A pulled muscle is a tearing of some of the fibers of that muscle, which causes swelling, then pain. It takes awhile for the swelling to resolve, but things that help include resting the area, ice packs periodically and non-steroidal drugs like ibuprofen. Depending on how bad the injury is, the length of time to resolve can last from days to weeks.
