Insomnia: Many reasons for poor sleep. Anxiety, hyperthyroidism, bipolar disorder, medication side effects, untreated heart failure or sleep apnea, etc. Check out http://www.Sleepfoundation.Org/article/ask-the-expert/sleep-hygiene & http://www.Cdc.Gov/sleep/about_sleep/sleep_hygiene.Htm re sleep hygiene. If that isn't enough, go see your doc for options. But those medications all come w/side effects . .
