Highly effective..: ..though precise estimates are not reliably known due largely to the challenge of needing to measure private behaviors that can not be directly observed! Issues include how completely does the condom cover an infected or exposed area. Better protection is offered for STIs transmitted by fluids (gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV) than by skin to skin contact (herpes, HPV, syphilis). USE THEM! Stay well:)
