A urine test: A urine test will tell if there is too much protein in one's urine. There is always a tiny amount of protein in everyone's urine, but it is a problem if there is more protein than typical. If there is too much protein, then the doctor can do further testing to see what kind of protein it is, and/or where the protein is coming from.
