Follow up: With another ultrasound later in the pregnancy to see if the placenta has moved farther away from the cervical opening. If they have not scheduled you or told you when to return, ask your OB at your next visit and go over the ultrasound together. Take care!

Depends: It depends on the proximity of the placenta to the cervix. Technically a low- lying placenta is a term given to any placenta in proximity to or covering the cervix at less than 20 weeks. That said, the time for resolution depends upon whether the placenta is covering or just on proximity to the cervix. Typically one would not expect to see resolution for approx. 6-8 weeks.
