I've been on omeprazole for yrs. is there another pill i can substitute for it, i've heard it is dangerous to be on indefinitely.

PPI side effects...: Recent studies suggest there may be long term side effects to taking PPI medications uninterrupted for years on end. The known side effects include osteoporosis bone disease (leading to increased risk of fractures), community acquired pneumonia and C. diff colitis. Its always a good idea to revisit why you are taking a particular medication and what the endpoints of therapy are. Good luck!
