Vasaline: Bleeds can often be prevented using the tip of a finger to apply a small amount of petroleum jelly just inside (no further in than 1/2cm!) the septum (middle part) of your nose each night before bed and again in the morning. A nose bleed that doesn't stop after 10 minutes despite gentle pinching of the nose in a seated position with head tilted forward slightly is a reason to be seen promptly.
