Coughing/bringing up phlegm, no other symptoms of cold/flu. phlegm is usually whitish clear. why?

Most common: cause is ALLERGY! If there is no inflammation from infection (yellowish/green sputum) then you most likely have an allergic tracheobronchitis ( a "relative" of asthma) An anti-histamine containing expectorant might help (eg: Phenergan (promethazine) Excpectorant) Check with your PCP (Primary Care Provider) Hope this helps Dr Z
