Doctor can evaluate: Sometimes, obesity is familial. Growing up in an obese family is a risk factor. There may be a familial genetic trait that makes a person maximize his inborn ability to store away energy as fat. Also, the family may eat too many high calorie foods or snack too often (continuing to snack just by habit, even without hunger). And, the family might be using food as a way of coping with stress.

You tell us...: Do you exercise regularly? Do you make healthful food choices? Do you choose fruits, vegetables and lean proteins over cakes, cookies and sweets? Are you active or sedentary generally? Have you had a medical check-up lately to be sure there's no medical reason you're overweight? Are your close family members overweight?
