That's pretty common: When you sleep on your back, the soft tissue in the back of the tongue & soft palate tend to drop towards the back of the throat. As you inhale, the air passing thru it create a vibration. That's snoring. "Sleep apnea" is an extreme form of snoring--the airway is completely blocked up and the snorer may stop breathing. If u think u have sleep apnea, please see a doctor!!!

Tongue falling back: When you lie on your back, the tongue falls backwards and obstructs your upper airway passage-> snoring. This is especially noticeable if you happen to be overweight or have recently gained a lot of weight. Lose the weight if this is the case.
