A member asked:

Is it necessary to have bowel prolapse surgery? what are the side effects?

Dr. Zbigniew Moszczynski answered

Specializes in General Surgery

Not always : if the symptoms of prolapse are manageable then surgery is not necessary. The decision to operate depends on many factors and therefore a consultation with general or colorectal surgeon will be required to make that decision.
