Are you infected?: Antibiotics are for those who are infected. If you have an infection you should not be having implants placed. You should not be expecting to get a prescription if your dentist does not feel there is a need.

Not recommended: There is no evidence pointing to the need for prophylaxis antibiotics in conjunction with dental implant surgery or restoration. Antibiotics are used to prevent infection.

Antibiotics: Antibiotics are used to treat existing infections. There are times when we prescribe antibiotics in patients who may be more prone to infections such as diabetics, compromised immune systems, certain heart conditions, prosthetic joints, etc. However, in most cases in a healthy individual & in the absence of infection, prescribing antibiotics is contraindicated and a bad practice!

Pros and Cons: There is conflicting evidence regarding antibiotics after placement of dental implants, especially in healthy people, in healthy bone, and without bone grafting done at the same time. Some studies have shown no difference in success rates with/without antibiotics. Some have suggested that there is a difference. So, your dentist will have to make a recommendation based on your specific situation.
