Hernia: It sounds like a hernia to me. Get an appointment to see the surgeon who performed your cholecystectomy or another general surgeon. The best course of action with hernias is often repair.

Sounds like: an incisional hernia, which is intermittently incarcerating. Get to a surgeon asap, before incarceration progresses to strangulation.
