HCG: A typical HCG test is a blood test that is no more painful than a needle stick in the arm. It would not change your fertility status. Are you referring to an HSG?

HSG test: HSG or hysterosalpingography is a radiological exam. The doctor will insert a small catheter into the uterus and inject contrast to visualize the endometrial cavity and Fallopian tubes. The test will show if the uterus anatomy is normal (many variants that could make having a successful pregnancy difficult) and prove both Fallopian tubes are open. Some studies show it may improve fertility.
