Sounds like fungus: Nail infections with fungus cause little in the way of irritation but can be quite itchy. You can also cause itching to worsen by scratching something repeatedly (because it itches!!!). Try just dipping the finger in alcohol and then keep a cotton cover over it (like cut off fingers from a cheap glove) to remind yourself not to scratch. If this keeps up, you may need to see your doc. Good luck
