Usually a few days: When antibiotics are effective against bronchitis, improvement (reduced sputum, less colored sputum) usually is apparent within 4-5 days. However, many cases of bronchitis are not due to bacteria and antibiotics like clarithromycin (Biaxin®) don't help much. If not significantly better after week or so, recheck with the doctor treating you. Good luck.
