Sprain vs break: Sounds like you may have sprained your wrist. Most sprains improve with rest, ice, nsaids and removable splints. If it doesn't improve in 7-10 days, i would see your physician about getting an x-ray.

Start with RICE: Although there are many structures in the wrist that may cause pain when injured, gradual onset may indicate arthritis or tendonitis. If you can remember a specific injury or describe where your wrist is hurting this would help narrow things down. Start with rice, resume activities gradually, and if symptoms persist see a physician.
