Take as prescribed: acyclovir will shorten the duration of cold sore, which is caused by the herpes simplex virus type-1. When the blisters form, the virus is actively replicating and can infect others. So, it's important to avoid touching the blisters and to wash hands. Avoid touching the eyes. Acyclovir will only shorten the cold sore but it is not a cure unfortunately. Relapses occur more than 1/3.
