Lower Lip Lesion: Greetings. Any lesion of the lip needs attention because the lips are exposed to sun which could cause cell changes to pre or full blown cancer. Cold sores are generally of viral origin. It is very hard to culture and grow viruses in a lab setting so the diagnosis is generally clinical by your doctor. If it's worsening, ice, a mild topical steroid cream and ibuprofen may help. Get it checked out.
