Lacrimal system: has to be explored. Puncta may be open but patient needs irrigation of the lacrimal system to assure that there is not an occlusion somewhere since this occurred suddenly after trauma.

Rule out rare causes: No ingrown eyelashes-trichiasis... ?need to rule out inflammatory disease, thyroid disorder. A good eye exam with optho would be recommended-check pressure and evaluate cornea/eyelids.

R/o allergic ds: Allergy testing, over the counter eye drops and using an anti histamine daily for one week may help determine whether this process is allergic. If there is a response to the anti histamine and over the counter allergy eye drops while avoiding common triggers such as pollen and dust, this may represent allergic conjunctivitis.
