Depends: Alopecia, or hair loss, may be caused by a variety of factors - low thyroid, severe anemia among them. The hardest to treat is the type where no cause can be identified. This is believed to be an autoimmune problem. Sometimes steroid injections into the scalp may help. Thankfully, this disease is usually self-limiting and will resolve.
