See MD: Persistently enlarged tongue can be caused by a number of disorders including, Down Syndrome, cretinism, hypothyroidism, multiple myeloma, acromegaly, amyloidosis, sarcoidosis and superior vena cava syndrome. It can also be idiopathic (no known cause). See MD for evaluation.
