I do not believe..: ..this is well understood, but it appears to happen once in a while. Theories include hormonal changes, including the use of birth control pills, or perhaps a fungal infection. Suggested methods of dealing with it include using OTC anti-fungal shampoos and medications, and washing with Palmolive soap. I have no experience with any of these, but you could try them, and then consult a Dermatologist

New products?: Did you try a new gel or shampoo that may be causing it? Have you noticed any rash on the skin of your scalp? If so, you may have a skin condition like seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis causing it. Otherwise, it may just be hormones kicking in. Best to see a doctor and have it checked out.
