Surprising question: Generally the clinician who recommends a nerve block will explain what it is. There are many ways but most commonly medicine that stops conduction along the nerve is injected around the nerve. Generally, limited discomfort in the procedure. Effects of the block are often difficult to predict and usually it is being offered as a trial, at least at first.

Nerve block: This really depends on what is being blocked and in what area. At any rate make sure you have the strength to at least stand before you start walking.
