Mid-cycle spotting: Your doctor's explanation makes good sense. It is not uncommon to see mid-cycle spotting around the time of ovulation as the ovulatory sac ruptures to expel the egg into the fallopian tube. Some of the resultant fluid and blood is passed through the cervix which tends to loosen its mucus plug during this time to allow for possible fertilization.
