Risk of HSV: short answer - Yes - you are at highest risk during an outbreak when there is active viral replication. It is possible that you were "lucky" and didn't catch HSV previously but hopefully your partner informed you of their condition so that you could use protection or accept the risk. Antivirals help shorten the shedding period or outbreak but currently there is no cure. Good Luck
