A member asked:

Can an endodontist drill through a permanent dental crown to do a root canal or does the crown have to come off (crown is affixed to bridge)?

Yes: Your crown does it need to be removed to,have a root canal. It is routine to drill a hole thru the crown and do the root canal. If the crown is defective and decay in the tooth then the crown may need to be replaced. However if the crown is in good condition then the hole may be repaired following the root canal.

They are experts at diagnosing and relieving tooth pain/infection, and use advanced equipment to treat patients efficiently and comfortably.

Ok to do: If the tooth does not have decay under the abutment, the root canal can be performed through the crown. There is always the risk of the porcelain fracturing off of the crown.
