It is possible: Over time tartar that forms on teeth can chip off and feel rough. Regardless, you should see a dentist for evaluation, cleaning and preventive treatment. Hope this helps.

Tarter: It is important that you see a dentist. When you have large buildup of tarter you may see pieces break off. This needs robe removedfromypur teeth because it full of bacterial toxins and causes gum disease, bad breath and tooth loss. Sea dentist for an evaluation and teeth cleaning.

Calculus: Tartar (calculus) often chips off teeth. Unlikely was part of toh. Tartar means inadequate hygiene. See dentist for cleaning, instructions on cleaning.
