R/O COSTOCHONDRITIS: You need to be examined have blood work and ekg. If you had a recent viral infection , you may have a post infectious COSTOCHONDRITIS which usually responds to a course of prednisone with taper over 8dys. If this persists, topical voltaren (diclofenac) gel and lidocaine patches can help. Lastly PRP(Platelet Rich Plasma injections can be extremely helpful with pain and healing.

Stabbing rib pain: You do not mention where in the rib cage , upper part 3/4/ or lower. Does it go away or stays the entire time you are on your side? May be musculoskeletal, or referred pain from the shoulder have you tried motrin or aleve (naproxen) ( if not allergic)? Alternatively if on the right may be gallbladder or on the left may be reflux and respond to ranitidine/ prevecid. f/u with doc urgent care consider xray
