A member asked:

Does a vision field test show weaking muscle of the eye ?

Generally not: Visual field tests are used to assess optic nerve function, most commonly in glaucoma. They can be used to identify possible strokes as well. The only weak muscle that could be identified would be the upper eyelid muscle in ptosis, as this would show obstruction of the superior visual field.

No : Visual field tests measure the peripheral vision along with the central vision. Muscle weakness can be measured in a neuro-ophthalmic exam. It is called ocular motility testing. Although both the field and the muscle can be affected by some conditions, the field test measures vision only and not the muscle balance or ocular motility.
