IF YOU ARE DIABETIC: doubt the infection in the ingrown toenail will cause systemic infection,or sepsis, or septicemia. unless you are diabetic or if you have a severe peripheral vascular disease, and you end up with a bad case of ischemia or gangrene. either way why you want to wait until it becomes a life threatening infection, start soaking your foot, trim your nail well, see a doctor, take antibiotic,etc...

I don't recommend: Waiting to find out. Is it red or swollen? If so, see a doctor as most of the time the offending nail spicule needs to be removed for the toe to improve.
